Mail art by Annette Kesterson (San Francisco, California, USA)

We take the liberty to interpret this piece we received from Annette Kesterson in San Francisco as a contribution to the Bad Romance concept that has generated so much great work at IUOMA-Ning’s Museum of Bad Mail Art that is curated by none other than Diane Keys (Elgin, Illinois, USA). This unadorned but brilliantly chosen book cover fragment suggests myriad pulp romance scenarios and – no pun intended – speaks volumes. They could be perceived as kitsch, parody or popcult anthropology. Because this is likely from a discarded book, we wish to note the Trashpo potential. Tenderfoots might recall some of the quirky, cryptic work Annette sent us last year and that, to the best of our knowledge, she is a librarian, which also explains a great deal:

We are also thrilled to add this new work to our ongoing, informal survey of mail art from the West Coast USA.

Many thanks to Annette Kesterson for keeping the fires burning!
