Mail-art by Claudia McGill (Wyncote, Pennsylvania, USA)

We are thrilled to share this recent postcard-size piece from Miss Claudia of Pennsylvania. This time she has focused on text-as-material making a collage that partially incorporates the William Burroughs formula and partially adopts the classic DaDaist approach. Awash in brilliant colors, the integration of visual and textual is complete. We also think the different fonts add to the work’s interest. Another aspect of this mail-art is that it can be read differently when turned upside down:

The piece has a high degree of indeterminacy. Is it to be read, viewed as a visual image or both? Can we read it in any traditional sense? What do the randomness principles applied ultimately reveal? These are ideas we ponder contemplating this intriguing and ingenious work.

As ever, deepest thanks to dear friend and correspondent Claudia McGill.
