MinXus Mail Bag: Mail Art Martha goes Trashemic (Beckenham, UK)

Martha - 1 - 2014

Mail-art by Mail Art Martha (Beckenham, UK)

When we consider Trashpo luminaries of the UK, Mail Art Martha – with her renowned Trash Trolley – immediately comes to mind, along with Rebecca Guyver, of course. (DKULTUK is still an unrealized dream in those fair isles.)

Mail Art Martha’s eminence is only further confirmed by this wonderful piece that recycles mail-art (or does it D-Konstruct?) and (above) includes Martha’s unique brand of asemic writing – the first we have seen. Of course, when a trashpoet works asemically, then it is “trashemic,” as pioneered by Neil Gordon (USA), Karen Champlin (USA) and other notables. These lovely, effortless, expressive cursive lines could, indeed, only be trashemic. Here is the reverse side with some very interesting cosmic debris nicely assembled:

We do not believe this piece is meant to opened; we could not bring ourselves to do so. We extend deepest gratitude to Mail Art Martha for this very fine mail-art!

Love that Martha calls you De Villo SLOANE, like the Sloane Rangers –

You must know about them but from Wikipedia: The term Sloane Ranger (often shortened to Sloane or less frequently Sloanie) refers to a stereotype in the UK of young, upper class or upper-middle-class women, or men who share distinctive and common lifestyle traits. The term is a punning portmanteau of “Sloane Square”, a location in Chelsea, London famed for the wealth of residents and frequenters, and the television Westerns character The Lone Ranger.
Initially the term “Sloane Ranger” was used mostly in reference to women, a particular archetype being Diana, Princess of Wales. However, the term now usually includes men. Male Sloanes have also been referred to as “Rahs” and “Hooray Henries”.[1]

You make me feel bad about not taking up the DKULT mantle with gusto, but you should see all the plastic I’ve saved from the dump, ready to re-assemble and send far and wide!

Aint that something. Miss Becca. Well, Miss Martha is usually a lovely & deeply pious woman. We can’t imagine it was nothing but unintentional.
With all them prizes you won & folks heapin praise on you for the Trashpo, Dark wall reckons you can rest on your laurels & even iffen you didn do nothing again you would forever have a place in our hearts & minds.
The truth aroun all that is that Miss KDJ has made a mighty fine mess of organizing all them clubs & kant no one even make rhyme or reason of it no more.
Head trauma is a might insidious malady & we reckon to take up a collection & send it to her.
