Claudia, either you have good instincts or you know you are assessing work by one of America’s premier “found” material artist/poets, maybe the original U.S. DaDaist. Bern Porter is an interesting character and has not achieved the mainstream recognition he could have claimed because he stayed underground and engaged in things like mail-art.

Obviously I have been sorting through some boxes and found the Porter piece in an old zine. I do think it is a good one, surprisingly so; and for a collage artist, the composition and content are likely instructive. This was a guy who held as fast to found materials & randomness as anyone of that era, for better or for worse. So it’s an unfiltered example.

I find with a lot of this kind of work, there is a simple juxtaposition of two seemingly unrelated things at the core.

    Thank you for your comment.
