I think the Derrida is interesting, but why does the woman do a voiceover in the most important part? SO lame. Let the guy talk. You know during many of his lectures he refused to speak English because he said it was a “decadent language.” Then he moved to California.

If this was an American guy on French TV, they would just dub the whole of it and we would not know what he actually said at all. So I think this one a pretty decent. Except for the fact that he’s fishing pizza on a couch.

Empress, at the risk of creating closure (which is just another construct), I must announce that the Saturday Night Cinema (threatened with cancellation) has been turned around by Dark wall. His hastily cobbled together sequence of videos proves to have tight & ponderous threads running through it, unknown to him, which just proves you can string together any random sequence of things & associations & narratives will emerge.
Trailer – “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is a Grade B slasher film elevated to the highest pinnacle of art in academic film journals as a manifestation of Antonin Artaud’s “Theater of Cruelty.” Dw just likes barbeque.
Trailer – The Beavis & Butthead chainsaw clip is surely an homage to “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” but introduces the theme of the suburban wastes. Dw just always enjoyed that episode.
Feature #1: “Couch Fishing” is a fav B&B episode. Yet it introduces the couch, which has led to Fainting Couch Fishing. Jacques Cousteau – the talking head French intellectual makes a guest appearance.
Musical Interlude: “1979” is Billy Corgan’s (rock start turned wresting promoter) image-musical salute to the suburban wastes where in the dead night’s hours the Stop-n-Go is an island rising from the wastes, a never-ending exhibition of corporate popart, which might just be the “official kultur” standing fully exposed.
Feature #2 – Jacques Derrida (not to be confused with the Jacques Cousteau) appears oddly resembling a one-man Beavis & Butthead when thus juxtaposed. In this clip, his explanation of Deconstruction (actually voiced-over by the interviewer) is nothing more than a re-tread of yet another Jacques: Jean Jacques Rousseau. His issues with spanking have been discussed at M-L.
That Derrida should be just another image-flashing talking head among Big Gulps, Kids of the Church of Slack, and chainsaw dismemberment clips is oddly poetic for afterall JD’s final assessment from Cal State Irvine was” America is Deconstruction.”

Ok . That was SO chosen for us and I watched the whole thing. It’s funny The Saturday night bunk house cinema series always make me want to reminisce… I have to admit that I was one of those odd people who didn’t watch television (for twenty years) so my kids would read books and that I missed Beavis and Butthead the first time around. My kids probably saw it at someone else’s house. I made a poster (for the student union Saturday night flicks) for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre! And as for Derrida, does that mean the French Revolution thing arrived safely at the ranch?
So glad the Empress won the m&ms. Can we have popcorn next time?

You, too, deserve a place of honour for having marketed the chainsaw massacre. Does not seem in character somehow. It was a Midnight Movie fav, for sure.
