MinXus Mail Bag: “The Slaying of Moan Lisa” event score by Moan Lisa (Iowa City, Iowa, USA) officially placed in MinXus USA Archives

Moan Lisa - performance - 1

Event score by Moan Lisa (Iowa City, Iowa, USA)

This authentic event score by Moan Lisa, which we received in December 2012, has been entered in the MinXus USA Archives as a MinXus artifact. We believe the piece was written for the Chicago Flux Fest (February 2013) but it could certainly be performed in many different venues.  The score came in this envelope with further instructions:

Moan Lisa - performance - 2

And the reverse:

Moan Lisa - performance - 3

Note “Bill Gaglione is a lesbian” stamp by Moan Lisa. Also included is what appears to be a cut-up piece of Cohen’s Brain Cell publication:

Moan Lisa - performance - 4

And on the reverse side:

Moan Lisa - performance - 5

Below is a separate postcard we received from Moan Lisa. This raises the issue of Fake Moan Lisas and the possibility that Moan Lisa has become “a multiple user identity.” In short, have a number of individuals assumed the Moan Lisa identity? Or is the ubiquitous work of Moan Lisa still emanating from a single individual?

moan lisa - performance - 7

While these pieces come from the original Iowa City source, MinXus-Lynxus suspects there are, indeed, now Moan Lisa impersonators in the network.

Moan Lisa - performance - 6

Many thanks to Moan Lisa for this historic work. We have more, exceptional pieces to place in the archives.

The world of Moan Lisa changes very fast.

Since I received this, Moan Lisa has apparently gone through several cycles of death and renewal.

As of this writing, Moan and the Art Akademie are up and running again, spreading a message of love, nudity, art for everyone, and Fluxus to the far corners of the globe.

Moan’s continued persecution by Google for posting pornography, when in fact I think it’s good visual poetry & not even very offensive in terms of “epater le bourgeois,” is saddening.

I thought the art/obscenity thing was settled long ago.

Right Empress, maybe at least some part of Moan is in all of us.
