MinXus Mail Bag: Correspondence art from Lindsay Stewart (Nova Scotia, Canada)

Lindsey - xmas - 1

Mail-art by Lindsay Stewart (Nova Scotia, Canada)

Our blog last year featuring dear friend Lindsay Stewart received great praise (Lindsay’s art always does that). We raised some eyebrows, attracted sympathy and provided not a few chuckles when she – being a very good sport – let us include some pictures in the blog of her visit to a hospital emergency room, which she documented with her photographic skills. (We gather it was not life-threatening. She fully recovered long ago. Our intention would never be to make light of that kind of situation. The photos were fantastic, and viewers concurred.)

Lindsay is a very thoughtful correspondent. We have had a few exchanges over the past two years, although not nearly enough in our estimation. Around the holidays, she sent a bursting package that included the letter above. The unaltered, found material provides a panoramic view of life in her world. The letter enhances that beautifully. The publications provide a lot of interesting reading material and possibly material for collage and cut-up, although our inclination is to preserve it in the MinXus USA Archives intact. Here is a representative example of the Sappy Times, which thus far is our fav, even beyond the cool art and poetry publications.

To Lindsay and all our MinXus Friends: Our cinema series, building our vast new publishing empire, and many other distractions have slowed Dark wall’s responsibilities to send autographed Mink Rancher postcards and ranch souvenirs to each and every Tenderfoot who has contributed to making MinXus-Lynxus…. how should I say it?…..well…. what it is. We assure you, also being committed to the spirit of mail-art, that someday you will find that Mink Ranch package just for you in your mailbox just when you least expected it.

The envelope was decorated with this wonderful collage, which reveals her characteristic collage style:

Here is the reverse side, although some pieces fell off and were lost:

I love the tone of Lindsay’s letter. She seems like she’s a lot of fun. Don’t you think you should leave the empress to the bunk house programming and send Lindsay a souvenir NOW?

Dw, bein the no ‘count you is, I figurs you lay back on your bunk & tell all the ranch hands how it would be if you ran the ranch & everything would be hunky dory. I can hear you sayin: “Iffin I was the Rancher, here’s what I’d do…”

You have no ception tall of what I do when I writes a personal message to each & every one o’ them dear Tenderfoots that expresses my regard for em, my admiration for em, and my recognition of each one of em as a talented individual.

I say leave the damn-buildin to the beavers & the clucking to the chickens.
