MinXus Mail Bag: Quizmo-Po from Rhinogirl (Bellingham, Washington, USA)

Mail-art by Rhinogirl aka Tallie Jones (Bellingham, Washington, USA)

We are thrilled to present Rhinogirl’s debut at MinXus-Lynxus. We made the acquaintance when we sent her some DKULTNY material. She responded with this fascinating, postcard-size collage. You can see her interest in language, fractured word-chance discoveries (“Onetics” is a definite keeper), found material, and visual-verbal play. The sense of colour is great, but we see this as essentially a textual work. The flip side, to our reckoning, is even more choice:

This side, from our perspective, addresses the idea of asemics, codes and game theory. Perhaps this is because we so admire the minimalist-asemic pieces using arrangements of differently coloured buttons that the great genius and MinXus benefactor De Villo Sloan contributed to the Asemics 16 – Asemic Syntax project.

Rhinogirl’s piece suggests formal structure, asemic symbols, letters revealed that hint at a meaning that is concealed, or a game of indeterminacy (based on a real game), among other things. We find this a deeply intriguing piece. Many thanks to Rhinogirl: We look forward to future exchanges.

STUNNING. With echoes of those abstract expressionists.

I think Rhinogirl is very clever. Do not know much about her but hope to exchange more.

Miss Tallie is a hit here & amongst the Trashpo folk: A tightwire act, sans net, over a pond of electric eels wearing a suit made of Swiss cheese. Bravo!

Abstract expressionism? What am I missing here?
