MinXus Mail Bag: Welcome missives from Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)

Mail-art by Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)

Carina Granlund is a Mink Ranch fav and most faithful correspondent indeed.

Putting out range fires and attempting to rescue Empress Marie from the downward spiral are keeping us busy. Those pics of her  on the sheep ranch in Australia clearly under the influence of demon rum are cause for concern, intensified by new reports she has been caught in a Tokyo sandstorm, further exacerbated by new artwork she posted on Flickr that, in our assessment, seems unhinged. We now pray for her safe return to M-L, following the dismissal of her five-year suspension for “cussin and spittin.” Tenderfoots,  put out positive vibes for the Empress. She needs MinXus-Lynxus right now.

Anyway, this blog contains two separate mailings from Miss Carina. Last year she visited the West Coast of the USA, which most Tenderfoots know had an impact on her art, including her discovery of Walmart coloured duct tape. The wonderful collage (above), if you look closely, is a vintage San Francisco scene – The Cable Car Room – although it also strangely resembles the Alsatian Diner at the Mink Ranch. Miss Carina enclosed this with the collage:

Below are separate Christmas messages from Miss Carina for the Mink Rancher and Dark wall:

Mail-art by Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)

This blank postcard was a Christmas gift to Dark wall from Miss Carina. The reverse, as near as we can make out, says: “Pietarsaari Jakoobstad Suomi Finland/Ammattikoulu/Yrkesskolo/Occupational School/Berufaschule.” We can attach to “Occupational School.” Perhaps Dw could complete his lapsed education in Finland.

Miss Carina sent a lovely little minimalist scrap to the Mink Rancher. Also included was a (highly confidential!) report on the state and history of mink farms in Finland. We deeply appreciate her thoughtfulness and candour. Here is her, as usual, fantastic envelope:

Thanks Carina! I do not think we would be us without you!

All of this is funny. Love the image of Carina in Walmart in the duct tape aisle… for surely there is whole aisle?
    Very troubling about Empress Marie.

Carina is fantastic as ever. She visited California & Arizona, from what I can gather. I was amused when what she chiefly commented about was the Walmart duct tape & the US obsession with firearms.

Purchasing duct tape became a pathology with some segments of our nation’s populace when Homeland Security, if I can remember this, when our Homeland Security Agency recommended guidelines for protecting your home from terrorist gas attacks using massive amounts of plastic and duct tape. However, there is not an entire aisle dedicated to it, at least at the Auburn Walmart.

Nothing less than an intervention is going on concerning Marie. When I summarized the narrative of her recent adventures, it seemed like a comic book. Yet it’s all true. No one should hold Vizma responsible for what seems to have happened in Australia, BTW. Last year’s Louisiana alligator ranch incident was only an inkling of what was ahead. Marie is what we call “a pisser.”

In the end, you have to help yourself. Marie has to take action. We are here for her.

Fear not, my dear people, Vizma’ s Ruby Tequilas saved Empress Marie.
I agree, Carina is fantastic as ever. I just received another great envelope from her yesterday and digging into it.

Empress, some of your older fans – even before MinXus days – might recall Dark wall’s comic chronicles of your TOXIS Adventures, including your trip across Africa where you were sold into slavery, the romance of Prague and the Kafka Hotel, the nail-biting episodes in the Korean monkey lab, the drama at Central Command… Then there was your incarceration in a shady hospital and your daring escape through a cat’s door in the kitchen. Now we know you are small and thin enough to have made such an exit. Surely there is some particle of truth in all these.

It seems now we have entire new chapters with your sheep ranch exploits, the sandstorm and your struggle with the downward spiral. And it occurs to me we’ve been on the dusty trail together for a long time.

It’s a long and dusty trail indeed, it’s a very dusty trail. TOXIS wherever you look. But nothing will ever defeat Minxus.
