MinXus Mail Bag: Sharking up the wrong tree from Miss Theresa Williams (Bowling Green, Ohio, USA)

Mail-art by Miss Theresa William Carlos Williams (Bowling Green, Ohio, USA)

What a lovely surprise it was on a cold and rainy day at the Mink Ranch to receive this clever and sunny postcard from our dear friend Miss Theresa William Carlos Williams, always a welcome guest at the Mink Ranch.

Because she is an acclaimed novelist of books for young ladies as well as the overseer of a thriving correspondence school, we have understood and pardoned the gaps in Miss Theresa’s communication with us. The card gave us something to puzzle over during idle time we were kept indoors by the rains and the minks huddled in their beds of straw while the rain tapped on the tin roofs of their sheds.

The bucolic scene on the card seems to suggest the mink ranch, were it a plantation in Virginia or even Miss Theresa’s native North Carolina. Far more perplexing to most readers is the fish in the sky. An explanation was found on the card’s reverse side:

Miss Theresa has been far too busy doing the work of our Lord to notice the numerous occurrences of various floating fish in the creative products of MinXus-Lynxus. In short, we have seen them too. So as to avoid panic in the general public and prevent the leakage of information that might become dangerous were it to fall into the wrong hands, a private missive will be sent to Miss Theresa concerning the “mid-air sharks” that explains everything and, as they say, sets the record straight. As ever, her envelope was lovely and tasteful:

The reverse:

A just slightly belated Happy Halloween to Miss Theresa, and many thanks for the wonderful card.

We hope you have a moment to visit Miss Theresa’s correspondence school, and perhaps you will be inspired to write to her:

Thank goodness the air has cooled and snuffed the pesky rascals out…but they are under ground and in our muddy swamps, waiting to hatch. God save us all!

Nice mail. I have always admired Theresa’s gorgeous handwriting. It looks like it wants to wrap itself around that shark to gently catch it.
