Was classic MTV Neo-Beatnik?

Whoa, from a safe distance some of those early MTV videos look not so much like a tribute (and aspiration) to the success and record sales of Beatlemania as a nod to the earlier Beatniks who had their own tensions with popcult. In other words, that sure looks like W.S. Burroughs on bass:

    This is like Yoko Ono’s early work. Exactly like Yoko Ono’s work.

    I dont see the likeness to Miss Yoko, mam. We did run a link to her “cutpiece” from 1964 up yonder, as she does ride with the Fluxus gang.

    This is jus MTV noir;

    Well, with words like Fluxus, Bagism, and instructional pieces, I do. What is the connection with mink …are you a mink rancher?
    BTW I like her stuff, and yours is interesting as well.

    Miss Sandra, you do pose some interesting quandaries.

    My contention was that the Split Enz video was making references to the Beat Generation, such as Mr. Kerouac, Mr. Ginsberg, etc. Now Beat-les, the early Beatles showed some Beat inclinations, but I was thinking afore the arrival of Miss Yoko & her influence. But Mr. Lenin certainly did bring Fluxus into it…. #9 #9 #9

    Your point is well taken. Bagism? We have Holism.

    And as to the latter, yes Miss Sandra, we is just operating a respectable Mink Ranch here. Tenderfoots like to send us their art, which we post.

    Now Empress Marie, she is the rightful heir to throne of France. She draws piturs and writes poems like you never seen.

    Rancher, I figure Miss Sandra wrote about an Event Score.

    For instance, the Fluxus gang is mostly interested in bustin up pianos. They dont just bust up the piano. They write: “Bust up piano” on a card. Then they bust up the piano.

      Damn it Dw! Miss Sandra sees what Miss Sandra sees & she’s entitled to it.

      What you need to be concerned with is that the Empress has gone missing. She cut up a piece of her velvet sleeve & aint been heard from again.

    Well kids..I wasn’t referring to the video when I wrote in. It was just a comment about the page and the work shown there.
    Whoever you are, you’re an interesting group.
    And yeah, the video is reminescent of the beatles, with a beat influence. I quite like it. Oh, oh, I’ve just seen another familiar name in your list…must check this out.
