I reckon it is safe to say that one can distinguish the outlines of what might possibly be a parrot.

Well, I can see one parrot, yes. But you are using plural. How many parrots are we supposed to see?

I wish there was a ‘seen this and thinking about it’ button. I hate ‘like’ {ing} repeatedly. Not that I don’t like it. I do. I’m trying not to ‘read’ it or to read it literally so that eventually I can automatically read it… I found a line in a 1930s magazine I happened upon that was, ‘make beauty your duty’ and that seems like a mantra that fits here, although I have the sense that there is something darker lurking beneath it all. I wish I could have a hairdo like that too.

Empress, see comment about pairing images in your piece below – the woman & parrot are put into a relation in this vispo, creating the same quandry as in your piece – what is the metaphor?
Very good, Ms. Becca. There is “something darker working beneath.” Since last year, I’ve been sending the Empress Vispo-Noir pieces – they use old photos especially to try to capture the tone and themes of film noir and writing such as Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep.” Gender roles, mystery, suggestions of some vast underbelly of society beneath the calm surface – these are all preoccupations.
